There are a lot of bad reviews of this place and I can understand why. When I went there, the booths and tables were not clean at all. It was too expensive for what you're getting ($14 for burger + fries). Then why did I give Peggy Sue's four out of five stars, you ask? THE GARLIC FRIES. THAT'S WHY. There was a generous topping of garlic on the fries. And the fries were super crunchy on the outside...yet...very soft on the inside? How'd they DO THAT!? I also got a burger but it wasn't much to rave about but it wasn't as bad as everyone was making it out to be. I will only come back for the garlic fries.

I love their onion rings here! And their shark tanks. SJ is always helpful with my friends and I ! 5 stars for customer service ! Come here for bomb drinks and food :)

Oh my goodness.... The garlic fries!!! They're so good. Golden, crunchy, salty French fries drenched in garlic and parsley. This is a must if you come here, whether sober or drunk. The food here is decent. Everything was a bit greasy, but it's what you expect. The garlic fries were pretty amazing though. We had enough garlic left over that I was able to make myself garlic toast. Just beautiful!!!

I am not sure why this place has such low ratings. I think the reason why I liked this place is because I was so hungry and it was also a night full of drinking (yeah, that's probably why). My friends and I wanted to go grab a bite to eat at San Pedro Square but everything was closing when we got there so we ended up here. I really like the interior of this place. It has this causal vibe to it, kind of retro, too. We quickly ordered and found a table to sit at and wait. I got the #1, which is the Hollywood burger. It's just a regular burger with avocado. The food didn't take too long to get to us. I was a little impatient because I was so hungry. It was already 8pm and I haven't had dinner yet, talk about being hangry. When my food came, I chow the burger down. I didn't exactly care too much about how it tasted, but it tasted really good to me. (But I think this is what a hangry and somewhat buzzed person would say...) I don't remember much from the burger but I remember it having large pieces of avocado in it, which I love! Overall, this burger definitely helped me sober up a bit. It definitely satisfied my hungry stomach. I doubt I'll come back considering other options in the area. Maybe it was a later time and they weren't as busy, but the food was pretty decent.

Terrible !!!! Never coming back. My girlfriend and I were about to walk out after patiently waiting for an hour since we had put an order for a damn cheese burger and chicken nuggets. so we went to the cashier and asked to cancel the order, the cashier replied with "hold on", he walks to the back to check on our order and the order haven't even started yet. He tells the cook to get our order started, comes back saying five more minutes. So we went back to our seat and waited again. Finally our food arrive, my girlfriend asked the waiter for malt vinegar and the guy looked at us confused and said I don't have it lol so my gf went up to the deal and simply grabbed it. Any ways avoid this place... Specially when you are hungry!

First of all, I love the servers! Great attitude, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful directing my boyfriend and I through the menu. We told him what we wanted and he helped us to the best priced way of doing so. The maltshake was BOMB-easily the best ever! The burgers were great, lettuce wrapped goodness. The fries were ok, but I must say again how great the milkshakes were! Thank you Sanjay!

If you want to wait a year and a half for your food come here. Asked how long said five more minutes Twenty minutes later we went to the cashier to ask for a refund and this is what we got, "please give me five more minutes." Service is terrible There a bugs because they leave the doors open. If you have a question no one answers you. Basically worst place I've ever been to, thought I'd try it out, but it was so bad we were just like forget it lets leave.

I paid around 20 bucks for a chicken sandwich, fries and a pint of beer. Now I know it's been awhile since I've been downtown but 18 bucks for that seems like a total rip off. The chicken sandwich and fries were mediocre at best and it was a blue moon beer. Maybe I'm just offended by the prices but I don't think I'm ever coming back to this dump.

Worst restaurant ever. Abuse their customers. Insult them. The Indians especially over there. Don't know how to treat their customers.. Happened me twice. Worst restaurant ever in the entire downtown. Gratitude less waiters. Bad food. Bad drinks. Do not visit them. We have been to many other restaurants in downtown san jose but this is they most annoying experience. Not at all suggestible. Be prepared to be insulted.

I'm only giving them two stars because the hamburger was actually good, other than that their food has gone down in quality. Their food is expensive and not worth it. I ordered the chicken nuggets for my daughter and literally they looked like the nuggets from Jack in the Box, just more expensive for less. The fries are $4 for a small plate full, they used to be decent. Now they have the consistency of the burnt curly fries from Jack as well. I asked for a cup for water & they gave me a small cup, the size or a Starbucks mini. I went to get water and it was carbonized, both options. very unpleasant. Just a very unsatisfactory visit. I used to visit here often but after this time I will not be returning. Sorry Peggy Sue's, it was nice while it lasted.

Came here with few friends and had such an awesome time. Such warm welcoming from this guy which we later found out was the manager, everything he recommended on the menue for food and drinks was absolutely mind blowing (absolutely on point and delicious). Thank you so much for such hospitality... Definitely coming back here as a regular

The food here is decent enough, one of the better choices for 2 AM grub. I came in specifically for a milkshake and decided on an order of fries to go along with it. So I ordered my shake and small order of curly fries, then when my boyfriend mentioned he wanted fries as well I changed my order to a large order of curly fries. The gentleman behind the counter suggested we get the large curly fries so we agreed. The term large CURLY fries has been used at least 3 times now. When our meal came, it showed up with regular fries. I don't mind a mistake, no big deal, it happens ya know. The problem was the way they dealt with said mistake. Two of the employees argued with me about what I ordered and spoke down to me as if I was an idiot. I hate to make the assumption that it was because I'm a female, but I didn't see them treating any of their male customers that way.

I don't understand why the reviews are so bad. Our service was great at almost midnight when they were about to close. The guy at the register offered lots of options for toppings. Everyone was super friendly. However the food did take a while to come out. The burger was good and I loved the fries. It's open late so I'd come back for my late night cravings.

Garbage is what is served here! Asked the Concierge at the Fairmont for a great breakfast place and she recommends this self serve diner! What a joke. Bacon and eggs were a disappointment, and I don't think I've ever seen such a thin slice of bacon. Food took a while as well. Just don't understand why places open and serve mediocre food. Get the food right if you're a restaurant or get out of the business and let real operators serve.

Stupid Restaurant. Grabs ur beers before ur done. Treated us badly inspite of making a bill of 300$. Never go to this restaurant. The worst restaurant in the entire downtown. Bad service. Bad drinks. Bad staff. Everything is bad about them. Trust me!!

  • Jorge R.

If there was a "zero" stars review I would choose that. The food is simply horrible. I ordered a California chicken sandwich, fries and a side of eggs. The chicken was really hard to chew into. Like it had been frozen for years. The fries were ok. But nothing to rave about. The eggs were cold and dry. My friends' food was nasty, hard and cold as well. It was a just a terrible experience for a not so cheap price. I was really hoping it would be a nice place but I would never recommend this to anyone. Sorry. Don't waste your money.

Universally terrible food. Uncooked freezer burned chicken patty. Cold eggs and dry waffle. Stale bun. Charged me $2.55 for fountain soda water. Just a tragedy. Stop. Turn around. Go somewhere else.

Review for customer service. Not food. The bartender was really friendly but the manager is a total dickhead. He doesn't know how to treat his customers or his employees well. They claim to have a full bar but the manager specifies to order from only certain menu or something. He was condescending to his employee and I felt bad he was treating him that way in front of his customers. Bad management will always result in failure!!! The only reason they're only open is probably the location. Besides that avoid at all cost!!!

The garlic fries were awesome. The milkshakes were awesome. On busy nights, it takes as while for food to come out, but go with some friends and have fun while you wait. After all, you're getting garlic fries.

My go to spot when I'm in San Jose. I've never eaten here besides snacking on a couple fries, deliciously crisped with flavor- but THE SHARK TANKS .... To die for !!! Where else can you get 32 ounces of alcohol chilled to perfection for $10!!! If you're the type to enjoy some adult beverages, like myself, this is a place you must come too. There's no restrictions on the shark tanks they're $10 every day!! You can get them with tequila or spend an extra dollar and get it vodka based. Great outdoor seating too. Thanks guys for making my San Jose trips worth while!!

WOW, I can't put into words how awful this place is! First of all, their prices are too high for the quality of food & service; $27 for two burgers, fries & 1 soda. SERIOUSLY?! Our order came out completely wrong; both burgers came topped with bacon(I don't eat pork) that we didn't ask for, and the fries with chili. Sent it back, then got the most disgustingly bland tasting burger I've ever eaten. It didn't even taste like real meat, more like a mush that they blended together! The bun, the tomato, and the lettuce were just as bad. I couldn't force myself to eat more than two bites. I honestly think McDonald's is above this place. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!

  • Cait S.

I ordered the Chorizo & Eggs breakfast, with a side of bacon and small lemonade. The total came to a little over $18. At this price, it's competing with the likes of Bill's Cafe, but the food doesn't measure up. The hash browns were slightly burnt, and completely bland. The chorizo scramble had pretty decent flavor, but was slightly mushy. The bacon arrived incorrectly at first as a second plate of hash browns. (There was only one other person eating at the time.) When I did get the correct order, it wasn't at all crispy. But I suppose that is a matter of taste. The lemonade was good...it's hard to mess up lemonade. If the price were lower, this place could maybe be a 3/5 star rating. But as it is, there are better options available.

Great fifties style diner motif. Fabulous burgers and six different types of fries are offered, including sweet potato and garlic. Get a combo that includes entree, drink, and fries. Wide variety of burgers, hot dogs, and sandwiches and a good kids' menu. Breakfast served until noon on weekdays. Freshly made milk shakes and ice cream novelties too.

I like this place because it's simple and the dining is casual. Plus, it is nearby the SJ Performing Arts so before crunch time for the 8pm show we found this place open around 7pm while others along the street were closed. It helped to see on the window that it got "Silicon Vally's Best Burger" but note that this was back in 2006 lol Peggy Sue Burger was expensive considering it was plain and did not come with fries. We had to buy a side of fries? It would have been great if our server had asked if we wanted fries with it. (Sad face!) My Clam Chowder Bread Bowl was ok if you like gooey soup. Lots of clams though, which was great, but bread bowl was mushy and not as firm as I would have preferred (I'm thinking Boudin, but I know this is no Boudin!). Easy meal, nearby, and free weekend validated parking when you park within the block. Maybe next time will come for the free parking!

Worst service ever, overpriced, worst burger I have ever eaten. The burger was dry, overcooked, tasted microwaved. I took one bite and that was it I couldn't eat anymore, the fries were ok and that's the only item I consumed while there. The Peggy Sue's on Park St. is way better and so is the service. I will never return back here!!

The whole grab a menu, order, then sit down process isnt quite apparent here when you walk in. We stood around for a good couple of minutes before anyone told us said process. Waiting for a friend we realized we missed the 1pm breakfast deadline. Phooey. But the cheesesteak with curly fries and chicken wings and chili cheese fries actually hit the spot. I was surprised I really liked the sando though I was not as happy with the wings. Fries were both solid however. Good if you're aching for the bar style food and diner style feel. 3.5 stars

The other commenters for this place aren't exaggerating: the manager will rip you off if you come in drunk and will overcharge you. I worked here over the summer and I seen him do some shady stuff, from giving customers as little fries as possible, not putting a lot of alcohol in the drinks and straight up adding items on their tab that they never ordered. If regular employers are making your drink they will be generous with alcohol, but not when Shiraz, the manager is there. He actually called a young girl (20 years old) a bitch because she didn't finish her meal before the store closed. I was disgusted and quit that week. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. To put the prices in perspective: to order fries, drink and a hamburger the very minimum it'll cost is 16$ for decent food and being disrespected. You pay for each item individually (meaning fries, burger and drink are individually charged). This is the only place I will ever tell people to stay away from.

We came for dinner and waited over 45 minutes to get out order. Granted, it was a busy time with many of the Sharks faithful here to grab dinner. But as we continued to wait, I found out that our order was given to someone else. We didn't switch tables but was waiting patiently with two toddlers. I'm extremely disappointed in tonight's service.

(This review is for their breakfast only. I've been there for dinner and, while I wouldn't go when there's an event on nearby, it's been ok otherwise.) Truly mediocre breakfast, which is a shame because there's nothing else much open for breakfast near there at 9:30 on a Sunday morning. I had steak and eggs with hash browns. Steak was requested as medium, came out way overcooked. Hash browns were requested well done, which usually means crispy and browned all over, but were dry and just blah. Eggs were requested medium and were fine. Just under-whelming for the price.

Slow to get your frozen food out to your take. We waited 25 Min to get our food and it wasn't that good. Maybe previously frozen. Customer service sucks. No smiles everyone employee looked miserable. I know it was 4th of July but if you don't wanna work call in sick or ask for a day off...!!! Guys working here are really weird and act like they never seen a women before. If you are a women striving for a man's attention come here you'll get hit on by the employees 100%....

Since this place got bought out by whoever the new owners are, the service has gone to total crap, and the food is sub-par. In addition, I work near San Pedro St. and so far all the store fronts have been pretty cool about letting me use their restroom once in a while. These guys are total Nazi's about the restroom, and I don't understand why, because its not even their restroom. All I did was go next door to O'Flaherty's and walked back into the SHARED hallway and used the SHARED bathroom. No biggie, but I just thought I'd mention it, since these are the people you may be potentially giving your money to.

Omg I came here one evening just to get shark tanks with my girlfriends. The service was weak. The guard was rude. And they would not change the damn tvs to the Sharks game! So my gfs and I came in and I figured it would be better to pee before I got my drink bc I really had to go. We were all going to get drinks but the guard wouldn't let me use the bathroom until I ordered something. Geez really? Your bathroom is that precious? I obviously don't look like a bum trying to use the toilet. So we ordered our drinks and THEN I was able to use the bathroom. So we got our drinks and then I asked the server if he could change the channel to the Sharks game. His response to me: I'm sorry we are really busy and I don't have the time. ... Are you kidding me? The restaurant was less than half empty and you're too busy to take two minutes to change the channel to a game and team that you promote with a drink called Shark tanks? One of my gfs who is also a part time server was appalled because she couldn't grasp the idea that they were busy when she definitely takes care of more tables on the daily and the customers aren't sitting there complaining. I told him if he gave me the remote, I would figure it out. He mumbled something that seemed like he would give it to me, but he didn't. After sitting there so frustrated, I walked up to the cashier (who seemed like the manager) if he could change the channel and he said of course. It took him a while though since it seemed like he kept getting side tracked. How disappointing.

Wow, very disappointing. Peggy Sue's has been my pregame (San Jose Sharks) spot for over a decade, but the sentimental value is starting to wear thin. My dad and I stopped by for lunch before the Sharks game today. A few things that we noticed... 1. Price has increased significantly (now $8.99 for a Chubby Checker WITHOUT fries or a drink) 2. Both burgers were WAY overcooked 3 .Chili = canned Dennison 4. Isn't the cheese on the "cheese fries" supposed to be melted? I wish management would actually READ these reviews. Please stop cutting corners and give us back the old Peggy Sue's!

Turkey Club tasted like a Swanson TV dinner and "Gourmet" burgers smaller than a Quarter Pounder w/ cheese where I have to apply my own condiments with "fancy" packets. The Security Officer is not only securing the establishment is able to serve you your food and also open the door to the restroom for you. Do not come here drunk.. They will overcharge you. Clearly dude thought we were drunk.. But guess what we weren't. 9.99 plus tax does not equal 15.89. So silly and the food is not even good. Come if you want to get robbed. Shad-E company and workers. No lie. Stay away.

  • Alan D.

I MEAN... yeah it's OKAY. But goddamn it's pretty expensive for something so... mediocre. It just doesn't seem worth the money you know? Because okay, I ordered a chicken sandwich, and I expected something a bit more, but not only did it come out like.... 15 minutes later, it came out really plain and boring. But let's not dwell on that negative. I want to focus on the positives. The alcohol, their specials on alcohol, and the fact that somehow, someway they make it taste so much better. Overall though, I honestly thought this would be an amazing place to eat when I was still in college because it was near THE SCENE... and it just looked like the typical college burger joint that everyone goes to. Unfortunately, I was left disappointed, but not let down. I got what I expected (at the last minute) and it was just MEH.

Typical american dinner with James Dean, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Manroe on the walls. I just fell in love with the decor! I mean who wouldnt right?? Theres plenty of seating here, altough the times I've came hardly anyone here. The menu has tons of items you can choose from, I must say they serve breakfast, lunch/dinner. For just a regular chicken sandwich, 7.99 plus tax!! Not including any fries nor drink. Regular fries are over 2 bucks and the fountain drinks are 2.39..thats just crazy! so in total I spend over 15 bucks plus tip....=/ I'm sorry but for some regular diner food, it should not be that much.

I have been here many times. I am in town a lot on business and this is my go to place for a bite....at least it was. The place was so gross when I walked in it stopped me in my tracks. Every table along the right side as you walk in was dirty, to include ketchup on the floor, napkins everywhere, the stench of rotten ketchup and grease....nasty. I contemplated whether I had lost my appetite or not and decided miraculously I was still hungry, so I pressed on. After I ordered my burger I told the guy (who appeared to be the man in charge) that he would soon run out of clean tables. Blank look. Ok. I waited 10 minutes for my burger, which was decent. By the time I left, and I could not get out fast enough, there were 11 dirty tables. I also saw previously mentioned man in charge throw a crushed straw in its torn wrapper from behind the counter, out the side door, onto the floor, where the condiment station is at. Basically, he littered in his own place. WTF? Two things are very clear to me. 1) There is zero ownership presence at this joint. An owner would have lost his/her mind at the site of it today. 2) The management (if there really is any) clearly does not know how to lead, manage, or motivate. If the visible parts of the business are this disgusting, it makes me very nervous how the kitchen is run and the food is prepared. I hope I don't get sick. I won't go back.

This place has to be the worse place ive ever eaten! The food and the service was horrible and I mean NASTY! Burger King has better pattys than they do ! I never knew a burger could taste so bad. Never have i ever had to return food! I mean never! The owner gave me such a hard time he wanted my id to return food because he said corporate needed it ? he was so mad that i said the quality of the burger was horrible ! He had people waiting in line he was yelling at his workers infront of the customers! Snapping his fingers at them ! This place has to be a joke ! His name was Shiraz R Jivani said he owned it for 8 years ! How can people let their franchise buisness become like this?? wow! Never will we ever walk by this filthy place and spend a red penny.

Been here so often I should date one of the employees. San Jose's Hottest Diner is...Peggy Sues This place has everything! -Lights flashing -60s Music -Liquor till you're sicker (for only $10) -Decent diner food (grow up people, it's a DINER) If you want really good drinks, ask for the tall, dark, and handsome bartender, Saif or Seth I dunno. He's friendly, fun, and knows how to keep a patron happy :D I normally get the California Chicken which is a grilled chicken with avocado, which is really good! Combine that with good service (which there is) and I'm a happy camper!

First time at Peggy Sue's and unfortunately, it will be the last. Though it looks like a great spot, the food was very disappointing. Come on, guys...you're actually serving your customers stale bread? What a shame. We really had our hopes up we found a great go-to spot for old school diner food in San Jose. Guess we'll keep looking.

This place is awful. Jack in the Box has better burgers and waiting 20 min for burger is beyond ridiculous. I live 2 blocks from here and its a shame I actually have to drive elsewhere to get a decent burger that isn't a rip off and doesn't take all day. SOOOOO not worth the price or the wait- DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME

Don't be fooled by the flat screens, early Hollywood era memorabilia, and the $12 Sharkbowl margaritas. Only 2 beers on tap. Ordered the double cheeseburger called The Chubby Checker and apparently didn't notice that after 2pm there are no combos available. It's all a la carte. I still ordered the combo fries and VANILLA shake that my son asked me for. The kid who took my order brought us a CHOC shake after I confirmed my order w him because he failed to repeat my order to me before ringing me up. He was too preoccupied w a group of girls sitting at the bar. Chubby Checker would be pissed to be named after such a shitty burger! It was super tough and of a poor quality meat. Flavorless & over cooked. Was like a cardboard & cheese sandwich. Sorry guys. But bein as I am spoiled by better burgers up north I gotta give it 2 thumbs down. And that is very hard to make me give a place that score. I'm usually lenient.

Crap diner with overpriced crap food and godawful service. You're better off going inside San Pedro Square Market for overpriced food truck-style noms. At least those stands will treat you like a human being. And the ambiance is much nicer.

Meh. I mean the reviews are true, but I had a blast here. Being just about the only customer alongside with my roommate for one of our nights about town. We headed to Peggy Sues mainly for their Shark Tanks! But decided we might as well grab something to eat and kill some time. I wasn't expecting their food to be anything close to delicious, but I was pleasantly surprised. The bar tender/waiter/cashier/guy was so cool. He talked to us the entire time, made our drinks with an extra spike and he really was a great guy even when it was so dead on the inside. We opted for a bacon cheese burger with added avocado for all about 8 dollars total and two Shark Tanks (10). The Shark Tanks are basically 32oz of margarita that has 3 shots of either tequila or vodka, 2 shots of triple sec, lime juice and premium blue curacao syrup and their very special sweet and sour mix with salted rim and a lime wedge. It was the most legit drink of my life and it hit me really good. It's the best thing at Peggy Sue's. It's one of those things that you can only get here, in SJ, at PS, so you have to try it out. The burger was actually really juicy, though small in portion and not enough, but it was all the elements of a simple burger that was cooked right. We got bored so we ordered some garlic fries- which weren't garlic enough but the fries were done really well. Crispy, so we choked down most of it with adding ketchup. They actually offer seven different kinds of fries, so your options are endless. Walking into Peggy Sue's it's literally one of those been here since before time from the fifties diner that has all the posters, and the pictures and drawings and everything to give it that homey feel. Glad they're here. Take credit, valdate parking over 10$ purchase and indoor and outdoor seating AND their tv's have cable for all the sports going on. Go here if you trying to find a quiet place to drink and watch sports!

The place was empty but my boyfriend and I decided we wanted a cheap burger (compared to others in the area). Now I know why it was empty. Worst hamburger I've ever had. I got a veggie burger which tasted like a frozen turned burnt patty, dry bun and no flavor whatsoever. The curly fries were good but expensive and fries cost extra. The beer was an okay deal. That's what the two stars are for. Overall, it's way overpriced for such a shitty burger. Mayo in a packet and pickles in a plastic container is just so lazy. Go somewhere else.

Came here for breakfast. I don't know how to say it in a nice way but the place smelled like a bathroom like they used the same mop water to mop the toilets and then the dining area. I know, I still ate there though. We sat at a booth. Note the seats were ripped. I do, however, like the diner decor and think this place has major potential since it is in a popular and up and coming area of downtown SJ. You order at the counter and they bring it to your table. I ordered the "Belgian Waffle" combo which came with a choice of bacon or sausage. I chose bacon. Got my order and was extremely disappointed because this was NOT a fresh waffle-it was a frozen waffle (like eggo). It was a large belgian waffle cut in quarters. It was cold and some of the pieces were burnt AND cold. I thought I could over look it with a little butter and syrup but It was so hard I couldn't even finish two slices. Bacon was thin and a little chewy. My total for breakfast was about $10 for Belgian waffle, bacon, and water :( This place could be amazing.

I'm so used to Peggy Sues on Park Ave that I thought the service here would be the same. Sad to say, it wasn't the same as I thought it would be. The food took 30 minutes to come out which is why too long. We were number 86 while they have food out to tables after they've taken our order. Plus, the table next to us had issues where they're shrimp and fish weren't cooked all the way and had to send it back. Even when our food after I complained to them, twice, it was still mediocre food. It doesn't that they only had one cook in the kitchen which is not okay, especially on weekends and events going on. This was nothing like the experience I get at Peggy Sues on Park Ave. I'm not setting foot into this Peggy Sues again.

I'm not a fan of this weenhole place. It makes me sad. I don't understand. I don't like being sad but this place keeps making me sad. Why oh why? It sucks the beanholes because they took 30 minutes to get our order. Keep in mind my friends that there were about 5 people in the entire establishment at this time. To further my disappointed review, as we decided to AIT our behinds down after a long night of Christmas antics, the worker told us in a fairly rude tone to move to the other seats because they are trying to close up so they can go home and eat their beans. Anyway I'm not usually one to talk poop about food places but wow my gangster friends, just wow. This place has bottomless pits of what they'd like to call "service" and tiny servings of lame-o food.

How are there not 0 stars? - dirty - horrible food ~worst service in San Jose. San Pedro - shut these jerks down! How is this place still open and these people have jobs? Stay AWAY ...

This place is a mistake, the only positive part was they had fast service. The bun was stale, hamburger cheap, and it was served with a piece of lettuce and a green tomato. Eck! I wanted onions and pickles and had to ask for them. Come on! The milkshakes was good I guess. Not sure this place will still be around in a year.

No stars!!! My friend got charged $30 for a shark thank when they were $10 dude didnt even return her money!! Employees are nice they tried helping but the manager (old dude with glasses) refused to refund!! And then when we ordered our second round dude didnt bring our drinks and claimed we had already received them worst service!! They just steal your money

Ive been searching for a place like this for 15 years in the bay! An old school diner feel that serves alcohol while playing otis redding and classic music that is so rarely heard anymore. Most unique place I've gone in awhile. Cant beat a 32oz PBR served in a plastic cup that you would get from your high school cafeteria. Definitely a solid place.

    (5)
  • Julia C.

Yes the shark tank is huge, but its size is its only redeeming factor. A huge percentage is syrup. Basically sugar with a light drizzle of alcohol and some lime to garnish. This place is fun to hang out at, prior to a sharks game. Especially with a great people watching view that comes with out door seating. Just don't come here if you're actually hungry. The chicken and fries are like soggy cardboard with out seasoning.

If you've ever had the misfortune of eating an am/pm burger, you have had the same exact thing at the fraction of the cost. I suppose the food here is AWESOME when your three sheets to the wind.

We ate her after going to the Tech Museum. It's a perfect companion restaurant. I just love the 50'/60's décor. It is so fun and the food is pretty good too. It's you basic p=burger joint with a flare. It was very busy when we went, but the service was pretty quick and the customer service people were pretty courteous. I will definitely eat there again when I'm in the area and a special treat. I just can't eat at burger joints to often because they aren't the best for you. That would be my only complaint. Well, that and the parking isn't the most convenient either. It is downtown so expect to walk a bit.

My friends and I had a late night post-bar hopping meal here. Pretty standard American food. We had their curly fries, onion rings and cheeseburgers. Really good. I love their onion rings. They were incredibly crispy, and the onion doesn't drag out of the breading. Good service, friendly staff. I think it'll be my go-to place for onion rings.

I came to this place during Christmas in the Park, granted it wasn't a full house I don't know why I ordered my burger and had to wait 45 minutes which was definitely not worth the wait. I practically had to beg for service of the people in line began to complain.

Terrible. Don't waste your time. You've been warned. Why? Service is poor. Burgers are gourmet? Haha biggest joke ever. The buns were worse than Safeway's cheap buns. The fries didn't taste fresh at all. It's sad because it's in such a great location and has good ambience. Go elsewhere. Even if San Pedro Square Marketplace is closed. Walk anywhere else.

Why does yelp not have a 0 star option? DO NOT EAT HERE!!! My 2 coworkers really wanted a burger and nothing opened until 11:30AM, so we went to Peggy Sue's. I wish I checked into the place on my Yelp app BEFORE ordering and not after. The burger looked like something that came out of the microwave. The patty was the thinnest patty I had every seen and it tasted like a mixture of hot dog and some unknown meat - definitely not beef. The food here is so gross I don't even know how it's still open to this day. So gross, so gross, so gross.....ugh....i shudder just thinking about how I even managed to eat some of the burger.....

Was at the jazz festival so decided to come here for lunch with my friend. She ordered a cheeseburger which was nasty. Didn't taste fresh at all. I ordered the French dip it was really dry. The other location in sj is much better. This was my first time here & definitely my last! Over priced & disgusting.

    This a great little place to grab a quick bite to eat for cheap!!! However, when I went to order their phenomenal fish bowl, the worker said I had to finish it by 12:15am due to licensing, quite a disappointment but I gulped it up quick anyway. The bartender Sef (with an F) was sooooo incredible he deserves a raise but it really bothered me that when I left a tip, I found out it went to all of the COOKS and none of it went to him. Needless to say, bring extra cash for him and forget about the greedy cooks (;

surprised I haven't stopped by this spot earlier.. after hitting up blush and san pedro square on weekend nights, we usually stumble over to temple. this particular night one of my buddies found it appropriate to check out the GOLD CLUB on the way so I figured i'd need a snack to get myself ready for the itty bitty yitties club, 'know what I mean?! I ordered a hamburger, it was a bit pricey and the meat was overcooked. It was slightly too tough and even a little burnt. correct me if i'm wrong but a hamburger shouldn't have cheese, so it should have a bit more mayonnaise to compensate and keep the burger moist? the burger was SUPER DRY like that japanese jacket store at valley fair.

This place is the definition of "subpar." Well, they have nice TV's. And the bar is pretty large. But that's the only thing that's good about this place. When I ordered the Hot Rod, a burger with pepper jack and bacon, the cashier didn't know what I was talking about until I pointed it out. Hello? Please learn your own menu. I also got the garlic fries. Service was fairly quick, but it didn't really matter. The burger came with two thin slices of bacon (not even folded over to, you know, fit on the patty), a mess of plain jack cheese (thankfully melted), one tomato, a patty that was in no way 1/3lbs, and half a piece of lettuce. Seriously? WHO SKIMPS ON LETTUCE? AND WHERE'S MY ONION? The fries also strangely enough arrived on a second plate, but which also devoid of any garlic whatsoever. It smelled like garlic, but when eaten they were just undercooked, soggy, and lacking garlic flavor. That, for 4.95? When the burger was 6.50? Uh, pass. To top it all off, there is another Peggy Sue's on Park Avenue and the food in their pictures look SO SO much better (they give you an onion, at least, and fries are in a basket). Whereas after eating here, I have to say I feel robbed. 1.5 Stars.

I'm telling you. It's like I stepped in a David Lynch film and was swept away. This place understands that it's not some Johnny Rocket blowing a fuse. It's better. It's home. It's the Bay Area. This is the joint for burgs and shakes. You want booze? Oh yeah. They got it. I'm not blowing smoke up butthole. When I claim a place to be the truth. I mean it. This is the truth. It's legendary. This is a place that brings the heat. Great booze. Great food. And a one of a kind establishment. This place is legendary. I will always be here for their triumph.

Was going to eat here while on a business trip and really had to use the bathroom when we walked in. Was told we couldn't use the bathroom unless we ordered first. We left, but it was a blessing in disguise because we walked a little further down the street to Old Wagon Bar and Grill and had amazing food! Worries more about who uses bathroom than customer service and gaining new customers.

Yuck! Airplane food at stadium prices. The burgers here are the worst I've had in a long time--thin, greasy patties with dry buns. You are out seven dollars for a burger that leaves you hungry and disappointed--and fries cost extra! Even after a late night out, this place is not worth it at all. Spend your money at La Vic or someplace else if you are in downtown San Jose, but don't go here.

    (1)

So I found out why no one is ever in here. The food is horrible and the service is worse. They messed up my order twice and got defensive/rude when we just asked for a refund on the burger since we didn't want to wait another 20 minutes. Just avoid

The only redeeming factor about this place was the milk shakes, and even then, they were sub-par and somewhat expensive compared to that of a simple In-N-Out burger or some other fast food restaurant. I really liked the interior, since I'm a sucker for retro, so I guess that's something if some people like novelty over food . The decorations and furnishings are reminiscent of Red Robin, but the food is waaaaaaaayyyy worse. I ordered a regular bacon cheese burger and some regular, plain fries. Pretty hard to screw up, right? The patty was disgusting. It was bland and tasted overly-processed like a cheap microwaveable patty available at any grocery store for 75% less than what you pay here. The quality of the food does NOT correspond with the price at all, and my friends and I were rather disappointed. We wont be back next time we visit San Jose.

The placed is themed like the 60s' and it was nice to look around while I had some dinner with my friends. The food was expensive and it was not even worth it due to the bad quality cooking. I ordered the hamburger with avocado but the presentation and taste was not that great. The fries are expensive as well! The only thing that was okay was when my friends ordered a $10 shark tank. They do put a lot of alcohol in these huge margarita drinks that make it worth it. This place is okay.

  • Elizabeth C.

Peggy sues is... fine. Their fries are great if not a little expensive... especially when you get into the "fancy ones." How steak fries became fancy I'll never know. They have what I like to call "correct" ranch which makes me incredibly happy. And everything else is basic diner fare...plus a bar. (Their shark tank is sugary. Their car bombs are large. And their coronas are cheap.) I'm not sure I believe it when they say "World's Best Milkshake" but some vanilla ice cream and espresso goes a long way. Unfortunately the food takes WAY too long. I've been here enough times to know this wasn't a one time thing. 20 minutes for fries? An extra 10 when they gave me the wrong soup. Too much...

Hadn't been in a long time and I forgot how bad it was. We were in the neighborhood and just dropped in for an early dinner. I'm not sure anything we ordered was up to McDonald's quality. The chicken in the chicken sandwiches was tired and fatty. All of our buns were super dry. The kids' chicken nuggets tasted like some non-chicken product. I can't wait for my next meal to get the taste out. If the bad quality isn't convincing enough, the prices are ridiculous. One of our kids wanted a hot dog and they didn't have a kids' meal with a hot dog, so we paid $7 for a hot dog, $5 for a side of fries and $3.50 for a milk. I hope I don't make this mistake again for a very long time.

I came here on the best day of my life, but Peggy Sue's did very little to help the fact. Why was it the best day of my life then? THE MRS. CARTER WORLD TOUR!!! My boyfriend and I were wandering around near the HP Pavilion hoping to find a decent place to find some food before heading over to the Beyonce concert and ended up at Peggy Sue's. Unfortunately, my phone no longer had any data and was unable to access Yelp otherwise I would've skipped the trip. Atmosphere: A tad bit tacky and overly "American", but it had its own strange charm to it. They have 2 large flatscreen TVs as well as I believe one other smaller one near the bar. Customer Service: The Indian woman was unenthusiastic, but we were also served by a chubby man who looked maybe Mexican or Filipino - he was very nice and a bit overly enthusiastic when my boyfriend ordered a pint of Guinness. "Yeahhh! Guinness!! My man!" Lmfao okay buddyy... Food: Here's the downer. I ordered Buffalo Wings and they were god awful. I am 95% certain that the buffalo sauce was nothing but tabasco sauce. It was overly spicy (neither my boyfriend or myself could handle it, and I'm normally pretty good with spice) and like I said, didn't taste like buffalo sauce. It just tasted like chicken in tabasco. Old, frozen chicken at that. Very disappointing considering it was the best day of my life and the meal I had was chicken I couldn't finish. The food was 1 star, but it was brought up by the friendly service and it was a decent place to hang out and kill a bit of time before the show.

Not sure if the ownership has changed here but the quality of the food has gone down dramatically while the prices have gone up quite substantially. I would always order a preset combination lunch that was generally good for a steak sandwhich and the prices for the meal was $8.99. The prices is now $12.99 but the quality of the meat has gone down, less toppings offered, and the overall flavor has changed beacuse of the quality of the ingredients. I am telling myself to never go back.

My favorite drink is Shark Tank. Great drink overall and good value for $12. Will come back for one to pre-game for sharks game at the tank. Swerve was great for a drink , didn't get food but those burgers did look tasty.

I took one of my employees to a Sharks game last night and asked him to choose the dinner spot - Peggy Sue's got the nod. Geez kid, could you have picked a crappier place? The burgers were blah, fries tasteless and beers not cold. Unimpressive performance, Peggy Sue. Maybe Peggy Sue got married and left the restaurant to her unskilled sister to run...? 2 stars.

    (2)
  • Emily G.

The food reminds me of food from my local mom and pop diner from back home. It's good but nothing too special, especially for the prices. The cashier was very friendly and gave us great recommendations on our drinks. The Shark Tank 32oz margarita is delicious!

This place was a total bust! My boyfriend and I decided to come here because we've had been to this restaurant chain before and it's yummy. However, this place in general, was awful. My boyfriend tried to get water from the soda machine but it wasn't water that came out. It was like a sour sprite gone bad. Then, we waited for our food. Both of the meals were supposed to come with fries but nobody brought them to us. We didn't even try asking the employees for some because of how bad our food tasted. I had the french dip which was basically meat put between two buns. There was no flavor and half of my bun was missing. The sauce was bad and even my iced tea had an awful flavor. It was overpriced and not worth the trip. Atmosphere gets an A+; food gets an F.

This place blows. Frozen patties. Frozen everything. At least there's alcohol. I don't think I've ever had a shittier burger w a cold bun. Wayyyyy overpriced fries. I'd rather eat at mc Donald's. Two bites and I felt like I was chewing on cardboard. If there were a zero star option, they wouldn't even deserve that. Really 40 bucks for two shitty burgers, cheap fries and Stella. Never again!

  • Tom B.

Very rude customer service. I ordered chili cheese fries and when I asked to split in half because they did not offer anything smaller, she rolled over her eyes. Also I ordered it to go. I waited at outside tables for my order which quite took long just for fries (like 20 minutes) and when she finally brought containers, she did not put them in a bag though it was order to go. When I asked about it, she rolled over her eyes again and told me to get it inside because they're too busy. The waitress seemed to be a young immature HS/college age spoiled brat. The food was mediocre in quality and relatively overpriced at $6.50. Soggy and wet. It was not spicy at all but bland just with beans and melted cheese. Definitely not worth it.

Peggy Sue's food is simply okay. Nothing special but not terrible. Came here on a Sat. Afternoon and the restaurant was disgustingly dirty. Came with a co-worker from New York and she even said it was dirtier than any place in NYC she had ever been to. Only reason I would come back is free validation with any purchase on weekends. I think this alone is what is keeping this place busy.

Peggy Sue's is your typical All-American diner. If you set your expectations too high or else you might be disappointed, but if you're looking for a quick meal you might be fine with what you get from this place.

stopped here on Halloween b.c it was only place open without a long line. neverrrr again. it's a 50's diner, but the whole time they played EDC music. ummm???? Burgers: $6 for a plain burger with 2 strips of bacon. I could make this at home. Fries: nothing special. Condiments: they say there's no extra charge for jalapenos, peppercinis, etc. owner tells me jalapenos are at the condiment bar. NO jalapenos! just bottles of BBQ sauce and hot sauce. i told him and he goes to grab jalapenos from the back. KETCHUP: OMG. never in my life have I had SPIKED ketchup. it tasted really "tingly" on the tongue...but we kept eating. finally we couldn't take it anymore. grabbed a ketchup bottle from another table and squirted it on our plate. this ketchup and the one we had been eating were completely DIFFERENT colors and textures. someone thought it would be funny to pour BEER into the ketchup bottle and shake it all up. yes, we opened the bottle and smelled it. it was beer. BEWARE of the ketchup bottles. took the bottle up to the guys in the back to show them, and they snatched it..without even apologizing!!! i told him "SMELL IT!". they simply handed us ketchup packets. we'd been eating beer-ketchup the whole time. Service: they took FOREVER bringing out my friend's hot chocolate..which is the powder kind by the way...25 min waiting for FREAKING HOT CHOCOLATE. they forgot her order even though she had paid. another 20 MIN WAIT for her curly fries. your'e joking me. both times she had to get up and ask them. this place has overpriced food and a long wait if they forget you. never coming back. 2 burgers 1 large fry 1 soda = $22. I could get all this for less at Carl's Jr. and their burgers beat this place any day.

We ate here for the first and last time! We ordered 2 burgers w/fries, 2 kids grilled cheese plates, 2 apple juices, 1 iced tea and 1 shot of fireball. All that was $70!! WTF?! Now if the quality of the food was better then maybe I wouldn't complain as much but Costco's frozen burger patties are even better! Not to mention we ordered our food at 6:58pm and got our food at 7:40pm. It wasn't even that busy! The server apologized but still! Not going back there again! We woulda been happier spending $30 at Popeyes!

Used to be a solid place to go to but last night was the worst. Arrived with plenty of time before the Sharks game. Ordered our food Cheeseburger, Philly cheese steak and drinks Shark tank and a beer. Picked up our drinks and wait and wait ... Finally after 50 min and seeing many other people getting their orders, go to the counter to find out what is going on. Can we get our money back? Oh no, they guy working the counter goes back to find out where the order is... chaos. They throw together a togo bag of food. We were not the only ones. There were four other orders trying to get their money back as it was now 7:20 and time to get to the game. Will not go back there again. If I could I would give it not one star.

I came here late at night bar hopping around Downtown San Jose with a few friends. We came here for a sharks tank cocktail. It's a huge glass, the size of my face filled with ice and booze. I saw him put a whole lot of alcohol in it, I can't remember what exactly but it really did the job. Everyone in my party ordered a sharks tank and we tried to race to see who would finish first. Too bad the place was dead empty, no audience to see me win. It tasted like a really tropical margarita. You can definitely taste the tequila, orange, and lemon taste to it. I think there was a berry taste to it as well. I cant remember. If you're curious. You should try it. It's a really good drink. Peggy Sue's is really dead at night which makes it fun to bring a big crowd because you know you'll have a seat and the music isn't loud at all. You guys can just sit around and catch up on drinks. The decor is of a classic 60's diner and there's a hot cut out of Marilynn Monroe by the bathroom. PHOTO TIME!

    1. Bad lighting. If you like to eat in your cubicle, you might like eating here. 2. Outdated, tacky atmosphere. If you like eating in a gift shop on Pier 39, you might like eating here. Those are my two biggest complaints about this restaurant. You can tell that the people that run it are trying, but trying in the wrong/cheap direction. San Pedro Square is growing more sophisticated, so why not renovate and make this place the best burger place on the square? It settles for 'good enough.' I still get take-out here periodically so that I can eat it at bars nearby that don't serve food. But dine-in? No way.

    (2)

If your coming to eat; I highly suggest stay away. It is served like cafeteria food. Tastes like it was microwaved. I would not suggest this restaurant what so ever. Waste of my money here.

I ordered the mango milkshake and my fiancé had the root beer float. The ice cream was definitely subpar and overpriced. The mango milkshake tasted not like the fruit at all, very fake. We will not go here again.

Save your money and health don't eat here. Ghost town when we walked in...that should have been a clue. We ordered two burgers with fries and onion rings. The meat was not of beef, i think maybe it was rat meat. Holy shat, how can they serve this as real beef? We both took one bite and sent it back. The guy (75 years old) told us nobody has ever complained before, but reluctantly refunded our money then would not validate our parking because we only paid for the onion rings and soda ($7), and he told us we had to spend at least $10. I remember Peggy Sues when they used to serve Beef on the their buns....rip peggy sue.

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. My boyfriend and I stopped by here before a Sharks game. Definitely not what I expected, in the WORST way possible. The server was incredibly rude- when giving us our food, he just dropped the plate in front of us, dropping a couple of fries on the table, without even apologizing. Then, I asked for a knife, and when he came back, instead of handing me the knife, like a decent waiter would, he just threw it on the table and left. Now for the food, I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, but you're seriously better off getting a burger from McDonald's. Trust me- this is not an exaggeration. Don't go here unless you're looking to waste your time and money.

I love San Pedro Square and would have never guessed this place served drinks until a friend told me about the famous shark tank! We stopped here before heading to Myth and shared since 32oz is too big for a girl who is under 5 feet (me). It was not as strong as I would have liked, probably because I'm spoiled with Patron and could barely taste the well tequila. Tasted very sweet so you could not taste the alcohol at all, sneaky! I did not try the food but really enjoyed how personable the staff was to our group, they conversed with us using our names and customer service like that stands out to me and will bring me back! This will forsure be a stop on my birthday night out.

I always stumble into this place in the wee hours of the night. Would I ever eat here sober? Absolutely not! Small portions, food is OK at best, and way way overpriced. Btw, I've had the most disappointing fish and chips of my life here. :(

Your typical diner food - burgers, fries, shakes. It's tasty and the drinks are good. I've been here a couple of times and it's exactly what you expect. I've been here when it's busy and quieter, but I felt that service was good and friendly. It's a good staple to have in the middle of San Pedro Square.

I was really excited to try this place out! I knew it was a typical old fashioned diner but I had to have it! My gf and I tried it out since we were craving cheeseburgers and shakes! we both had cheeseburgers, fries, and a strawberry shake. It honestly wasn't anything too special. The taste was good. Service was wayy toooo slow. They must have had only 1 cook in the back. The price was decent I guess for a diner?! not too expensive. The portions were aite? The bar was a bit to dark to see though. This is where they served sodas and sauces for your burgers and fries. The lights needed to be a bit brighter to me because I could barely see my shit. The best part was our shake! SOO good and not stingy about their amount of it! They had the tall glass plus an extra cup full of shake! YUMM I would come back Peggy, sorry

First I would like to say is that I LOVE PEGGY SUE'S!!! If you read My Reviews on the other Peggy Sue's location on Park you can see how much I love Peggy Sue's! BUT....this Peggy Sue's is totally different. Both Peggy Sue's locations are different owners and they have the same menu but make their food totally different!!! As you see the reviews on this location aren't great, PLEASE try other location! That place is yummy!

What happened to this place! haven't been here in a long time, but i remembered they had great burgers. Used to be thick , juicy patties. basically all around good burger and delicious fries. To put it bluntly, the burgers are revolting. Thin, dried out patties. The meat looked like mystery meat, probably made from left over parts, (ears and a**holes). Bun was dry, bacon was mummified. I'm kinda mad i spent 7 bucks on it, could made some at home or gone to sliders on san carlos. If you absolutely have to eat here, get a basket of fries and one of they're 32oz beers. Only good thing in the joint!

I was really surprised that this place described themselves as "gourmet". Perhaps they don't know what that word means. First of all, the place smells bad and it comes off as dirty. I didn't look closely to inspect but that was the overall impression. But, the part that means most to me is the food. I'll excuse anything if the food is incredible. Sadly, I haven't been that disappointed in a burger in a long time. Overcooked patty (not grass-fed or even natural , you know, just the usual pumped full of antibiotics kind), on an un-grilled bun that looked like those buns that comes out of the huge bag at Cosco. Toppings included a dried out piece of lettuce and a slice of tomato. On the plate next to it all, a sad little mayonnaise packet. Oh, yeah. And since I ordered a cheese burger, there was a piece of american cheese completely melted into the patty. I wasn't given a choice in cheese, which is a basic for anything approaching "gourmet". No pickles, no onion, no special sauce, no special extras. Maybe they have them on other burgers, but even Red Robin includes these on their basic cheeseburger. Their tiny saving grace were the steak fries. Not wonderful, but not gross (which is the category in which I would place the burger). Could use a seasoning besides table salt.

I've been here a few times before and it was a cool place to go and dine in. I went this thursday and as soon as we got to order our food I asked the cashier guy(owner ) how big their Caesar salad was... he walked away 3x during my order without saying excuse me . I can eat alot he said it was a good size and big enough. My bf ordered a burger and curly fries. The bacon was so thin and gross looking. The fries were the best out of both our meals. My 'good size salad' was big enough for a 4 year old to eat. Ridiculous!! I will give 4 stars to the shark tank drink. Mine was great. I asked for tequila. My bf asked for vodka and his didnt even taste like it had alcohol in it. The guys who work there need to pick up their pants too because they're all sagging. Probably last time I go there

Topical American dinner, with their food overly priced with no flavor and terrible service. The only good thing is their coffee. I probably wouldn't go there again.

Well, I tried Peggy Sue's for the first time last weekend. And I hate to say it but I wasn't too impressed. I sort of expected more from this place because of all the rave about it. Burger and Fries were less than mediocre (the quality of their beef patty's were as terrible as it gets). And the place definitely needs a make-over. Im thinking "Restaurant Impossible"?

I went here to have a late dinner with my girlfriend and brother because it was the only place open where we can eat a decent meal. However, we deeply regret going there. If there was a negative star rating I would give it because this place doesn't deserve a star. The quality of the food was bad and overpriced. Don't bother ordering the apple pie because it's a piece of small shit. They charged me 6$ for a piece of small crap which tasted very bland. The garlic fries were horrible because they were soggy and didn't have that much garlic making it bland. In addition, I paid $5.50 for the fries and they give a little plate of "sad" fries. Overall, If there was a 7Eleven near there you should go there instead because they sell better quality food and more reasonable prices.

We visited this place after a San Jose Sharks game. Two burgers and one order of fries. The place was 1/3 full. 40 minutes later we were still waiting for the burgers. The staff had lost the order. It took over 1 hour for the food. The manager did nothing to make the situation right. He looked at his camera system and found out his staff have the burgers to some drunk people at another table. We will NEVER come here again!

Such a sad place. This is not the classic burger-and-shake joint that you want it to be. The food is maybe OK, on a good day. The staff is laconic and aloof. The space is dirty, beaten, and cluttered. Take, for instance, the silverware. They offer actual metal spoons and forks but only plastic knives (they have a tersely handwritten "For mayo only!" under them). There are ragged paper signs taped to the wall, rips in the seat vinyl, throbbing music playing in the afternoon on a weekday (while all of their visitors are just trying to watch Stanford play in the Rose Bowl.) Here's the gist of it: they don't care about you. They also don't understand that people want this to be a classic burger joint. Nobody wants crappy neon bud light signs or miserable inkjet printed ads plastered everywhere. Peggy Sue, get your act together, you owe us "the world's best shake".

My friend told me to skip the fries, so I did. I had just a Teriyaki Burger. It was well-flavored, the bun had a good burger-y texture, and the meat patty was pretty solid. The lettuce and tomato came on the side, which might have been more helpful for avoiding a mess in the long run when I decided to eat it on the side and not to add it directly to the burger. It's no In-N-Out or a super fancy burger joint, but it's pretty good, albeit a bit pricey given the simplicity and size. Minus one star for not showing NHL games on a hockey night. I saw other places on this block that showing hockey or at least the highlights show on the NHL Network. They had soccer, college basketball, and college... volleyball? Bleh. Maybe minus another half star given the price concern.

Right before Usher concert on Sunday, my group of girlfriends and I decided to eat here because we were really hungry. I ordered the Avocado Burger with added bacon because I love eating avocado with bacon. I thought the burger tasted plain and the texture was just okay. Nothing spectacular about it and the fries was alright. Overall, I would have to say this place is just A-OK!

My friend was craving a burger right before the ISA Bay Area show and as you have it, Peggy Sue's was right across the street from where we first found some street parking. Peggy Sue's can be described as a mix between sports bar and a diner, it's cute, spacious and clean. You place your order at the counter, and despite having a pick up order sign at the counter they brought our food to our table. You fill your own soda, get your own condiments and silverware, and grab your own peperoncini. For a Saturday at 3 PM the place was fairly dead inside for a while. I went with a Peggy Sue burger for $4.50 which is just a regular hamburger and added fries and a drink for an additional $2.55. Burger comes with lettuce, tomato and a package of mayo. I was disappointed that it didn't come with any onions but I added ketchup, mustard, peperoncini, and two types of bbq sauce to my burger to dress it up. In the end, I'd say it was an unremarkable burger which needs extra flavor (and onions). The price for what you get isn't bad, the fries tasted fine but weren't that memorable. Peggy Sue wouldn't be my go-to place for a gourmet monster burger, but if I lived closer it might be my go-to place for a cheap and quick lunch.

Peggy Sue's is an burger joint that has a 1950's flair: chrome, oldies, burgers, shakes and fries. I stopped here to try something new. There was only one family here on a Sunday night. I imagine this place is much busier when the Sharks are playing. The menu has a bunch of uninteresting burgers, sides, shakes and salads. I chose the Hot Rod and sweet potato fries. It was served "deconstructed" which means that I had to put it together. A hamburger patty covered in pepper jack sat on a bun. On the side was lettuce, tomato, two full strips of bacon and two little packages of mayo. Ketchup and Mustard was on the table. The burger was fine but neither huge nor memorable. I was annoyed I had to construct the burger myself and found the mayo packets a tad tacky. The sweet potato fries were perfectly fried and very tasty. The guy who took my order wasn't very chipper. He didn't want to be there. In the end, neither did I. I don't expect to return here. I prefer Red Robin way over Peggy Sue's.

"Meh" is right. Nothing special, pricey for why you get. I suppose if I were a huge milkshake lover I might bump this up a star. As it is, I'd recommend you just walk your ass right 'round the corner and grab a Cuban sandwich and fried plantains in hot sauce at Los Cubanos.

So I've lived in Santa Clara/San Jose all my life (44 years) and went to Peggy Sue's for the first time tonight because we went to Christmas in the Park. What a disappointment!! The food was about what you could get at any low rate diner. Not bad but not good. The service is really what prompted my bad review. First of all the lights were off outside so we weren't sure if we could walk in or not. Then the guy who was originally at the counter to take our order looked like he got frustrated because we didn't spout off an order right away (we had to look at the menu). He went back to the kitchen and sent a younger kid with no personality to take our order. After we ordered we looked for a clean table (at least 6 of the 10 or so tables were dirty) and sat down. We saw the kid who took our order mop under a table with one arm and managed to push all the items under the table to the back of the wall, I guess that's considered clean there THEN he left the dirty mop up against the wall by all the tables. No one of the staff was identifiable and it seems like they are all thirsty as camels because they frequented the soda machine often, even with short lived rush we witnessed a couple employees walk out from the back to fill their cups. We got our "over-priced" food - almost $50 for three of us and ate. The dirty tables that we saw when we got there were still there and patrons were bussing their own tables so they could sit down until the laziest looking girl came out with a bussing tub to start doing her job. She started cleaning a table off for a couple ladies after suggesting that they sit at another "clean" table right by the door. I'm surprised they are still in business, it seems like its a family own establishment now...... I'm sure they don't get much return customers, just ones that happen to stumble in because they surely have a prime location - lucky for them.

The best thing about this place is the location. Food was bland. Garlic fries were cold. When we went to the counter their response was "What - they're not warm?" On top of that, there was no garlic to be found on the fries! Got attitude when we asked them to validate our parking. Don't waste your time or money.

I'm so sorry but I really felt like I was taken advantage of at this place. I typically wouldn't post a bad review if I felt like i just had a fluke bad experience or maybe if the cook wasn't on point or whatever the reason, but after checking the reviews (which I should have done before), I realized that this establishment has a reputation for bad reviews on the food. I have a feeling that they make their $ on the liquor so food isn't necessarily a priority, which is ok if it works for them. I ordered a chicken with avocado and received a dry chicken patty, cold bun, and 3 slivers of avocado that made me giggle. Overall it was overpriced cafeteria food. Hope they do something different because they seem like they could be a nice establishment.

While visiting San Jose, CA. two weeks ago for the Barry Manilow Concert at the HP Pavilion, we decided to head towards downtown to grab something to eat after the show. There was not much open after 9:30 PM on Thursday but, I had been to this establishment before and when I got to North San Pedro, I saw it was open and since I had a burger craving, we walked in. The girl that was working the counter literally forced herself to respond to my hello and acted as though she was doing me a favor taking orders in between her conversations. I ordered us two double burgers with cheese and bacon along with two sides of fries and two sodas. She kept assuming I said onion rings and after the third time, she understood that I said fries. I kept my temper and patience in check but that was annoyance number one. After placing my order, I stood there and had to ask for my beverage cups for the self serve soda fountain. When the food was delivered, I had to call the server back as there was no bacon. The sever looked at the receipt as if he were puzzled. He took the food back to the kitchen and then came back and told us that there was an extra charge for the bacon of two dollars and change. At this point, I decided it was late and I wanted my food correctly. So, I got the change to give him and in fact, gave ten cents over and had never even gotten my change back. I never even got an apology from anyone there for their mistake. How tacky! It was the cashier's error and for customer service reasons, they should have complimented the bacon. As far as the food, I have had a much better food experience at Five Guys, Wendy's Sonic and Carl's Jr. The burger at Peggy Sue's was mediocre and had a frozen taste associated with blandness. The skimpy portion of fries were nothing to write home about either. The atmosphere is nice for a diner paying tribute to the past but they need to learn about customer service and how to train their employees to care about the customer. They also need to learn how to properly correct a scenario in a way that compliments the customer. The service for what was being charged was sub par and I shall not return. I don't know if this was owned by someone else about six or seven years ago but back then, it was good food and decent service.

I'm always happy here drinking and eating with friends or by myself. You can't the prices on beer and food anywhere else on the street or in downtown for that matter. Unlike the other bars in the area you can rest assured no riffraff will be present here, this place flies under the radar due to the look of a diner but it's a great drinking spot that's open late everyday.

If you are looking for a classic frozen burger from your local grocer and frozen Ore Ida fries a dirty restraunt, and careless employees who give off very low to no energy then Peggy Sues is the place for you. But if you are looking for tasteful food, and friendly employees PLEASE for your sake DONOT GO TO PEGGY SUES. YuK!!! This freakn' place is nasty, nasty, nasty... Who the hell can f*** up frys? The fries were cold and the condiments in the cart were so old god only knows how old the mayo was; YUK!!! And PLEASE DONOT ORDER THE ICE TEA because it's more like filter-tea/old water..... Save yourself the stress and go elsewhere....
